Tim Harkins is the Battalion Chief (BC) for C-shift, which consists of 27 personnel, including five Captains. BC Harkins reports to the Deputy Chief of Operations. During assigned 24-hour periods, he ensures fire, medical and other responses are handled efficiently within KFD’s defined response parameters by coordinating closely with our partner agencies and City of Kennewick personnel. BC Harkin’s staff responsibilities include communications equipment, hose and appliances, ladders, and small tools.
BC Harkins began his fire service journey in 1996 as a student at Portland Community College, which included an internship with Clark County Fire District 12, North of Vancouver, WA. He was hired as a part-time firefighter with CCFD #12 while finishing his Associate of Arts in Science - Fire Protection Technology. He worked as a part-time firefighter for Clark County Fire Districts 11, 12, 13, & 14 until he started his career with the Kennewick Fire Department in 2000. BC Harkins promoted to Captain in 2010 and assigned to the Rescue Engine at Station 61 until his promotion to Battalion Chief.
BC Harkins has been a member of the department apparatus committee for 17 years, a member of the Tri-Tech/Columbia Basin College Joint Fire Science advisory committee, a member of the Technical Rescue Team, a Fire Science instructor at CBC, a member of the KFD peer support team, and most recently had the opportunity to be an instructor during two regional recruit academies.
