Animal Nuisances are regulated by Kennewick Municipal Code Section 8.02.340. The confines of the law allow the City to file an infraction against a citizen who continually allows an animal nuisance to disturb his or her community. The City of Kennewick contracts with the Tri-City Animal Shelter to provide assistance in animal related matters and ensure compliance with Section 8.02 of the Kennewick Municipal Code . You may contact them with any questions or concerns you may have about animal control issues within city limits.
The Kennewick Municipal Code in 18.12.040 allows a resident to have up to 3 of any one kind of animal and a combined total of 6 animals on each residential plat within city limits. Essentially this means that a resident may have 3 dogs and 3 cats—but not 6 dogs. There are exceptions provided if there is a permit issued allowing for additional animals, if the animals are under 10 weeks old (a new litter), or if the animal allowance was grandfathered in as part of an annexation agreement from the county. If you believe a violation of this code has occurred, you may report it to Kennewick Code Enforcement for further investigation.
The Kennewick Municipal Code in 18.12.040 allows residents in R and HMU zoned districts to have up to 3 chickens (excluding roosters) under a specific set of guidelines provided in that section. If you believe a violation of this code has occurred, you may report it to Kennewick Code Enforcement for further investigation.
If you live within the city limits and the animal is a domestic animal (cat or dog), contact Tri- City Animal Control at 509-545-3740. If you live in the County, contact Benton County Animal Control 509-460-4923.
If the dead animal is "small wildlife" (racoon, skunk, etc.), contact our Street Department at 509-585-4419. If it is a deer, elk, or coyote, contact the Dept of Fish and Wildlife at 509-545-2201.
Please be advised that Animal Control will only pick up wildlife if it is in the roadway causing a road hazard.
If you have a bad check over $750 please submit your paperwork to the Benton County Prosecutor’s Office. If you believe the check issued to you was fraudulent or stolen, please contact the Kennewick Police Department through non-emergency dispatch at 509-628-0333.
Arraignment Hearing: If you have received notice for an Arraignment Hearing, and would like to request a continuance, you may contact the Benton County District Court at 509-735-8476 ext 3249.
Probation or Non-Compliance Hearing: If you are scheduled for a Monday Probation Hearing, please contact the Benton County District Court Probation Department at 509-735-8476, Option 7.
Pre-Trial Hearing: If you are requesting a continuance of any other type of hearing and are not represented by an attorney, you may contact our office at 509-585-4274 or by e-mail. Please note that you may not speak to an attorney about your case directly. Our office will be limited to noting our file of your intended absence and requesting the court to note your failure to appear and reset the case. We cannot excuse you from your court ordered appearance. The judge has the final decision as to whether to issue a bench warrant for your failure to appear or to grant a continuance.
Trial Readiness and Jury Trial or other Motion Hearing: Our office cannot excuse you from your trial appearance. In the event you fail to appear for a Trial Readiness, Jury Trial Hearing, or other Motion Hearing, we will request a bench warrant. In addition, it is likely new charges of Bail Jumping will be added to your existing charges.
The City of Kennewick is not zoned for and does not permit retail recreational marijuana locations. Please see KMC 18.09.1605 and 18.12.165 for further information. You may also contact the WA State Liquor Control Board for up-to-date information on the state marijuana licensing regulations.
