1. What can I do about a barking dog in my neighborhood?

Animal Nuisances are regulated by Kennewick Municipal Code Section 8.02.340. The confines of the law allow the City to file an infraction against a citizen who continually allows an animal nuisance to disturb his or her community. 3. Who provides animal control services in the City of Kennewick?

The City of Kennewick contracts with the Tri-City Animal Shelter to provide assistance in animal related matters and ensure compliance with Section 8.02 of the Kennewick Municipal Code . You may contact them with any questions or concerns you may have about animal control issues within city limits.

4. How do I report a potentially dangerous animal in my neighborhood?

Call the Tri-City Animal Shelter at 509-545-3740. In the event the animal is causing an immediate emergency situation, please call 9-1-1.

5. How many dogs can my neighbor have?

The Kennewick Municipal Code in 18.12.040 allows a resident to have up to 3 of any one kind of animal and a combined total of 6 animals on each residential plat within city limits. Essentially this means that a resident may have 3 dogs and 3 cats—but not 6 dogs. There are exceptions provided if there is a permit issued allowing for additional animals, if the animals are under 10 weeks old (a new litter), or if the animal allowance was grandfathered in as part of an annexation agreement from the county. If you believe a violation of this code has occurred, you may report it to Kennewick Code Enforcement for further investigation.

6. Can I have chickens on my property?

The Kennewick Municipal Code in 18.12.040 allows residents in R and HMU zoned districts to have up to 3 chickens (excluding roosters) under a specific set of guidelines provided in that section. If you believe a violation of this code has occurred, you may report it to Kennewick Code Enforcement for further investigation.

7. Who do I contact about a dead animal in the street?

If you live within the city limits and the animal is a domestic animal (cat or dog), contact Tri- City Animal Control at 509-545-3740. If you live in the County, contact Benton County Animal Control 509-460-4923.

If the dead animal is "wildlife" (racoon, skunk, deer, coyote, etc.), contact our Street Department at 509-585-4419. 

Please be advised that Animal Control will only pick up wildlife if it is in the roadway causing a road hazard.
